Update for August 24th: Headstart access tomorrow!

Fri August 24th, 2012

For those of you who pre-purchased Guild Wars 2, headstart access begins August 25th at midnight pacific time (GMT-7:00), instead of the official release date of August 28th. It makes you wonder if this is soft launch really just a pre-release beta disguised as an early launch. But no character data will be wiped before official launch, so this is as good as launch for those of us with headstart access. So enjoy!

Also, feel free to stop by our community forum and post about your expectations for launch, or how you are planning for your guild to function, or what will be your first goal once in-game!

We can't wait to see you in the world of Tyria. See you tomorrow.

New Chat and Shoutbox!

Mon April 30th, 2012

You can access the chat via the new link on the top navbar, when you're logged into the forum. You can also use the shoutbox directly from any page in the forum. The shoutbox is located below the statistics at the bottom of the page (above the copyright). The new Chat module has a number of chat rooms available for ad-hoc RP, and a private channel (not visible from the shoutbox) for community chat. Though not as responsive as Skype or other chat clients, this could easily be used for community events and other social interactive needs. Here's a screenshot of the main chat window.

Stir the pot Contest Announcement

Mon April 30th, 2012

Fellow roleplayers,

Here at gwrpc, we're looking for new members and new conversations on the forum, following our most recent Guild Wars 2 beta weekend event. There's a lot to talk about!

In the spirit of good fun and competition, coupled with the obligatory incentive, we're announcing our first ever contest on the site! Starting today, if you create a new topic discussing anything related to GW2 that stirs the pot, you will be entered to win a gift of in-game GEMS at launch worth $15. You are allowed and encouraged to invite guild mates and friends to come join in the conversation and "bump" your posts to help you win! Also, drawing a moderator into the conversation will count towards qualification!

The contest will run from Monday April 30th 2012 until Monday June 11th 2012 at 12 PM CDT (noon central). The contest may be extended if there are no qualifying topics at that time. Qualifying topics (and the topic starter) will be entered into a drawing to be held on Friday June 15th. Multiple qualifying topics per user will result in multiple entries into the drawing. The winner will be notified via private message, and will be responsible for replying with an in-game character name (or account name) for the account that will receive the prize.

Terms and conditions. The winning topic MUST:

  • comply with general forum etiquette and any/all site rules (no excessive swearing, abusive posts, etc.)
  • be at least 2 pages of replies (20 posts, including yours)
  • contain posts from at least 5 different people (including you)
  • NOT contain two consecutive replies by any participant (both posts will not be counted towards the post minimum, editing posts IS allowed as always)
  • NOT contain replies such as "bump", "reply", etc. (these will not be counted towards the post minimum, and may result in a temporary ban)
  • NOT contain off-topic replies (these will not be counted towards the post minimum)

The site admins/moderators reserve the right to add to or modify this list of terms and conditions at any time, as necessary for well-being of the community. However, qualifying topics will not be disqualified except for abusive posts or other reasonable violations of site usage policies or rules.

The Professions of Guild Wars 2

On guildwars2.com, there's quite a full list of professions available now! If you haven't seen the latest, you need to, so step through and check out The Thief, The Engineer, The Mesmer, or any other profession you've missed now!

The Mesmer

Inspired by the mesmer from the original Guild Wars Prophecies campaign, the newest profession to be released has gotten a serious face-lift in the form of new skills, new weapons, and the ability to spawn phantasms and clones to confuse enemies. Do you think this is an improvement? Check out the mesmer profession page to view skills videos. Then head on back and let us know what you think!

The Mesmer

The Engineer

A classic profession in other games, the engineer is the newest of three original professions in the Guild Wars universe, featuring mastery of bombs, pyrotechnics, alchemy, and guns. This profession promises to be truly explosive. Will you dare to play with fire?

The Engineer

The Thief

Apparently a blend of a traditional thief class and the assassin from the original Guild Wars Factions campaign, the thief truly unique. This stealthy and deadly profession is sure to challenge your preconceptions and possibly your planned profession choice as well... at least, it has for me! What about you? Are you a shadow warrior?

The Thief

The Guardian

Possibly a hybrid of the paragon and the dervish from the original Guild Wars Nightfall campaign, the guardian delivers a traditional blend of defensive capabilities, swords, shields, and heavy armor. Is valor in your blood?

The Guardian

The Necromancer

Inspired by the necromancer from the original Guild Wars Prophecies campaign, this updated variation promises to be more deadly, and certainly more morbidly alluring than its predecessor, using fear as a psychological weapon. Can you speak to the dead?

The Necromancer

The Ranger

Inspired by the ranger from the original Guild Wars Prophecies campaign, this profession features new interoperability with other professions to create a truly unique offensive style, combined with the stylish ranged attacks that make it an old classic. Will you be drawing your bow-string?

The Ranger

The Warrior

Inspired by the warrior from the original Guild Wars Prophecies campaign, this deadly combatant may not be all new, but it certainly is new and improved. Is your destiny in the sands of the arena?

The Warrior

The Elementalist

Inspired by the elementalist from the original Guild Wars Prophecies campaign, this magic wielding powerhouse is sure to please. Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. What is your attunement?

The Elementalist

So if you're dying to talk about which profession you will play, or you just can't decide (like me), then head on over the Guild Wars 2 Roleplaying Community Forum and talk about it with us! We'd love to hear from you!

The Races of Guild Wars 2

Hopefully, you've heard by now, but on guildwars2.com, there's a full list of races available! If you haven't seen them all yet, you need to, so step through and check out the Norn or any other races you've missed now!

Sylvari

Possibly rooted in celtic mythology, but clearly inspired by elvish lore, the Sylvari are the youngest race in Tyria, and have opened up a whole new world of role playing opportunities. Are you one with the forest?

Sylvari

Norn

By the bear, the Norn are fierce, ferocious, and without fear. Clearly inspired by vikings of the frozen north, and based on norse mythology, this race towers above the rest. Have you attained your ursine form?

Norn

Charr

The feline race of Charr remind me of a pack of lions more than a litter of house kittens. The most feral, and possibly the most dangerous of all the races, the Charr war machine forges ever onward. Will you stand atop the parapets of the Black Citadel?

Charr

Asura

A small but super-intelligent race of gnome-like beings who prefer to ride on the backs of magical golems, the Asura are either a gift to all of Tyria, or the future overlords of mankind. Do you believe in the Eternal Alchemy?

Asura

Human

Humanity has been put through the ringer, but their spirit remains unshaken. Do you have what it takes to be humanity's greatest hero?

Human

One you're all brushed up, you need to come back and talk with us about which race you'll choose for your Role Playing Character, and why you have decided to play that race. So head on over to the Guild Wars 2 Roleplaying Community Forum and talk about it with us! We'd love to hear from you!
